Background:

HortResearch was well known throughout the fruit industry for its innovative research into new breeds as well as using nature to improve the quality and nutrient value of existing fruit. The scientific research conducted at HortResearch is world class but only known to a small audience.

Objectives:

Position the company as the number 1 source of information on fruit genomics

Method:

Leveraging fruit genomic milestones, including revealing research on a red fleshed apple, scientific conference attendance and a peer reviewed paper, Halsin Partners implemented a PR leadership program in Europe

Results:

  • Significant coverage of red fleshed apple including the Times, Financial Times magazine, New Scientist, Sunday Express, Chemistry & Industry; interviews with BBC and Economist
  • Introduction of HortResearch management to approx. 25 science writers in Europe, which has led to multiple inquiries on issues surrounding fruit and health, including nutraceuticals, science of fruit aroma and “mood food”
